Objectives | Saxophone/Clarinet/Flute/Oboe and
Bassoon:
Work on fundamentals necessary for musical development . Further knowledge of basic music theory. Learning notes, fingerings, scales and music. Symphonic Band:To further the
development of basic
musical
skills,
including but not limited to playing in tune, learning more complicated
rhythms, bettering sound and technique, playing in an ensemble setting,
sight
reading and overall ensemble skills. Students
will also work on the Objectives laid out on
their Objective
sheet in their band binder. |
| Lessons/Activities | Saxophone/Clarinet/Flute/Oboe and Bassoon: Learn and review time signatures, key
signatures,
basic rhythms and note values, correct posture, correct breathing,
assembly,
embouchure, playing position, and qualities of a characteristic sound
as a
class. Review any new notes and fingerings
learned in the previous class. Students
will warm up with longtones, scales, and other exercise. A
portion of each class will be devoted to music theory, clapping and
counting, sight reading and learning pieces frorm their book. Symphonic Band Rehearse warm-ups, scales, Clarke Studies, Chorales, and music. Weekly sectionals to continue to improve on the aforementioned items, ensemble skills, tuning skills, and overall musicianship. Rehearsals will include soli and solo playing. |

*****REMINDER: SPAGHETTI SUPPER PERFORMANCE FOR SYMPHONIC BAND, FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 29.*****
Saxophone,
Clarinet, Flute, Oboe, and Bassoon Classes: Students should be taking their instruments home every night. Failure to do so will result in five points being deducted from their grade for each offense, detention for the second offense, and an office referral for the third. Daily assignments will be given in class based on material covered that day. Practice Journals are due every Monday. Beginners should be practicing 120 minutes a week. A grade of a 100 = 120 minutes practiced per week. Chair tests and/or playing test will be announced as I see fit. Students will be given ample instruction on the test during class and plenty of advanced notice for them to do their own preparation. Symphonic Band: Students are expected to practice 150 minutes/week and record this on the Practice Journal (on lavender paper this six weeks), plus attend a weekly sectional. Chair test materials will be announced at the discretion of the director with plenty of advance notice for preparation.
