8th Grade Language Arts Final Project 2002
In this project you will be researching and
documenting a social concern. You will do the following:
- Prior to coming to the lab, select a topic.
- Create a web using Inspiration software and
the topic and questions you develop in class.
- Print your web.
- View your web as an outline and print
it. For those who need it, this will serve as a guide for your notes.
- Begin researching.
- Remember to use key words from your
questions to focus your search for information.
- Use reputable search engines like Google
to help you find information.
- Read the search summaries before going to
a site. Use the summary to decide whether it is appropriate for
your research topic or not. If it is, take a look. If not,
look at the next one in the list. The key is to not waste your
time looking at unproductive sites.
- In large documents, you can use Edit|Find
(on this page) to look for key words or phrases.
- Take notes (summarized in your own
words!!! -- Beginning, Middle, End, Concise and Precise and fits in the
palm of your hand...) on your outline or a blank sheet of notebook paper.
- Document where you found the information
by recording the following information:
- Web Page Author. (NA
if not available)
- Web Page Title.
- URL (web address,
the whole thing...)
- Publication Date. (NA
if not available)
- (Your visit date.)
- Prepare your rough draft pamphlet by folding a
sheet of 8.5x14 paper into thirds as instructed by your teacher.
After folding, hold the paper like a C, write page 1 on the outer side of
the paper. Write page 2 on the inner side of the paper.
Use the example below to write your headings in the proper columns (look for
the green circles...).
