M.T.A
Q. What is M.T.A.?
A. Multisensory Teaching Approach
is a program used to teach our students who show characteristics
of dyslexia.
Q. How are these students taught?
A. There are four major areas
of study included in M.T.A.
1. Alphabet and Dictionary Skills
- learning the letter names and sequence in order to be able
to effectively use a dictionary, encyclopedia, telephone directory
or other alphabetically arrangedmaterial.
2. Reading - learning to read
through a phonics approach to decoding words. Letters and letter
clusters are introduced one at a time and reviewed daily.
3. Spelling - each sound and
the letter/letters which go with that sound is individually
introduced and reviewed daily. Spelling rules and a process
for encoding, or sounding out words is also taught.
4. Handwriting - as each letter
is introduced, the students learn that cursive letter formation
through a multisensory approach involving the use of the muscles.
