Second grade
subjects and areas covered are:
Social Studies-Communities,
geography and maps, wants/needs, goods/services, transportation,
governments, history, people, places and holidays.
Science - What
is science?, animals and habitats, earth's surface, weighing
and measuring, matter (solid, liquid, gas), weather.
Mathematics- Adding
and subtracting to 18, patterns, graphs, measurement, place
value to 1000, two and three digit adding and subtracting
with regrouping, time and money, geometry and fractions.
Language Arts-Story
structure using the Basal Readers and/ or Novels, the writing
process, sentence structure, paragraphs, main idea, phonics,
spelling, nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs.
Communication-
A folder containing graded work from the previous week is
sent home weekly.
Field Trips and
Special Events- A yearly field trip is an exciting part of
second grade. There are three class parties (Winter
Holiday, Valentine, End-of-Year) throughout the year, and
parents are always welcome to join in on the fun!
