Q. Does the student learn communication skills?
A. The student will perform numerous public
speaking assignments. They will learn how to prepare and give
an oral report. They will evaluate the intent and context of
the speaker's message.They will develop vocabulary to understand
the written language using context clues, phonetics, and structural
clues. They will be able to write effectively using standard
forms of nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, and pronouns.They
will learn and develop their communication and research skills
through use of in-class computers, programs, and the internet.
Q. What will Fifth grade cover in Math this year?
A. They will study number concepts, geometric
properties, algebraic concepts and measurement. They will be
able to demonstrate an understanding of probability and statistics,
place value (whole numbers and decimals), fractions, and number
theory. They will have the use of computers to learn and enjoy
math.
Q. What is the focus of the science curriculum?
A. Science is a hands on approach to laboratory
equipment and concepts. We use the optical data system to supplement
our studies. The themes covered are: geology, astronomy, pollution,
conservation, animals without backbones, electricity and magnetism,
plant growth, and ecology.
