Govenor Perry
This bill will bring enhanced physical activity and testing initiatives for millions of Texas students.
The bill was authored by Senator Jane Nelson whose district includes Flower Mound, and the Senator was also our guest.
Dr. Kenneth Cooper of the Cooper Institute, a world renowned research and advocacy center, spoke to our students on the serious issues of inactivity and obesity that they are facing.
Our k-5th grade students must participate in moderate to vigorous physical activity for 30 minutes during each school day, during PE or structured recess.
In addition, all 3rd through 12th graders will receive a fitness assessment each year with results being available for parents and the data being compared to the schools academic test scores. The prediction is that there will be a DIRECT correlation !
Childhood obesity is a huge problem in Texas and across the United states. Let's get moving to turn this trend around!
Please watch for opportunities here at Forest Vista for both students and parents to participate in wellness and fitness events.
