	SOARING INTO SECOND GRADE
	Welcome – Yes, we do learn to soar. Second grade is a transition year, as we develop into independent seekers of knowledge. Second grade allows for children to develop their learning styles and become responsible learners. Our back to school night is August 19th, 7:30 until 8:30. At this time the teachers will be explaining the second grade way of doing things – such as homework, curriculum, discipline plans and our Eagle Bucks. Please plan on attending.
	Second Grade combines our curriculum together. Language arts consist of reading, spelling, writing and English. The Science and Social Studies units are theme related and are incorporated into the Language Arts curriculum. Math is taught by formal math lessons but is also taught with the other subjects when it can be applied.
	Special Activities that Second Grade participates in through out the year are: • Pumpkin Math • Computer Brochures • Holiday Sweatshirts • Turkey Trot • Jump for Heart • AR Reading • Book-It Reading • Eagle Buck$ • Science experiments • Biographical reports • Oral Reports • Field Trip
