FIRST GRADE WISH LIST
As we prepare to open a new year of school, we find that we can always use more of certain items that are not on the school supply list, and unavailable to us through our ordering system, because they are considered consumable.

Curriculum Focus:
In Language Arts our curriculum builds a strong foundation of reading skills with a focus on phonics. Spelling consists of word lists taken from the spelling series. We use the D’Nealian Handwriting Series focusing on spacing and correct letter formation.
Our Social Studies units consist of Families, Communities, Neighborhoods, Citizenship, Famous Americans, Holidays and Past History, Symbols for our State and Country, and Map Skills.
In Science we will study the Five Senses, Seasons and Weather, Plants and Animals, Light, Heat and Forces, and Places on Earth.
Our main focus in Math is on Adding and Subtracting numbers to 20 and recognizing Patterns. We will also introduce units in Geometry, Place Value, Number Order, Money, Using a Calendar, Telling Time, Measurement, Fractions, Graphs, and Two-Digit Addition and Subtraction.
Special Events that First Grade participates in throughout the school year are: • Thanksgiving Feast • Field Trip • Hundreds Day Celebration • Camp Forest Vista
