| Language Arts consists of Spelling, English and Reading.
Spelling: We test each Friday beginning with states and capitals. Then
we do one unit per week (including 4 day weeks) until the end of the
year. |
|||||||||
| English: The textbook focuses on parts of speech. We will also do several forms of writing including poetry, narratives, compare/contrast and persuasive. | |||||||||
| Reading: We will read several novels throughout
the year that integrate with our science and social studies units. Book
reports will be assigned
occasionally. |
|||||||||
| Math: We will cover fractions, decimals, place value, multiplication and
division by 2 and 3 digit numbers, and geometry. It is very important
that the students have a good foundation in basic multiplication. |
|||||||||
| Social Studies: American History (U.S. geography including states and capitals) is our topic. We cover early settlers, 13 colonies, Revolutionary War, Civil War, Westward Movement (pioneer simulation) and the 20th Century. | |||||||||
| Science: Our topics are Biomes, food chains in Ecosystems, Cycles in Nature (i.e. water and rock cycles), Magnets & Electricity, air, water, and land, pollution, dinosaurs, and fossils. We also teach geology and ecology lessons in preparation for camp. | |||||||||
