TAKS/SDAA
In addition to routine testing and other measures of achievement, students at certain grade levels will take state assessment tests—either the TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) or the SDAA (State Developed Alternative Assessment).
- Reading: each year in grades 3, 4, and 5.
- Mathematics: each year in grades 3, 4, and 5.
- Writing: grade 4
- Science: grade 5
Students must pass the Reading section of the TAKS during their third grade school year in order to be promoted to the next grade level . Fifth grade students must pass Reading and Math. The state guidelines allow third and fifth grade students who fail these portions of the test to retake them.
To receive a high school diploma, students must successfully pass exit-level tests in English language arts and Mathematics or end-of-course examinations in Alegbra I, English II, and in either Biology I or United States History.
