With all the recent school incidents, we truly understand the need for safety. Toward establishing a safe and orderly environment at our school, we have addressed the following:
- Drills for fire, tornado, and security are practiced regularly.
- Our campus has a set of security doors inside our main hall. All adults entering the building—regardless of the time—must stop by the office to obtain a visitor's pass and be allowed through the security doors. Do not visit classrooms without a scheduled visit.
- All adults entering the building must use the front door. All other school doors will be locked. (This does not prevent students from exiting.)
- All employees have been asked to approach anyone in the halls who does not have proper identification (employee or visitor badge).
- Our existing emergency plans will be reviewed by our BLT and Flower Mound Police, making changes whenever needed.
- Copies of our emergency plans will be on file at the school, as well as at the Administration Building.
- We ask parents to call early if their child will be absent. An answering machine is available to take your calls before 7:45 a.m. Please call 469–713–5955 with the student’s name, teacher/grade, reason for absence, when the student will return to school and if you would like to pick up missed work.
- A driver’s license must be shown when picking up a student early from school. There is a sign out sheet provided in the office. Your child will be called to the office by the office staff. Please do not go to the classroom to get your child.
- Students are not allowed to leave with anyone who is not listed on the emergency form or without a note from the parent giving permission for the particular adult to pick up your child.
- Name plates for dashboards will be issued and all parents are asked to use them daily when picking up their children.
Programs
A Fire Safety program will be presented to all grade levels.
Our counselor will provide classroom presentations to instruct students about how to be alert for strangers, gun safety, conflict resolution, etc.
Our District has a Crisis and Response Express (CARE) program providing twenty-five counselors and psychologists to minister to student needs.
Parent Tips
Please review the following tips with your child(ren) to ensure safety to and from school.
- Show your child a safe route to walk to and from school or the bus stop. If your child is a bus rider please refer to Bus Information, and to the "School Bus Rider's Safety Handbook" provided by Durham Transportation.
- Send your child to school at the same time other children are on their way…not too early and not too late. Walking with a group is safer than walking alone.
- Show your child where to cross the street using the designated crosswalks.
- Be sure your child understands to come straight home from school.
- Remind your child never to talk to strangers.
- Please send a note to the teacher when transportation plans are changed. (See also Communication - Transportation Changes.)
Pesticide Information
The Lewisville Independent School District is required by the Texas Structural Pest Control Board and the Texas Department of Health to notify you of the following:
The school periodically applies pesticides. Information concerning these applications may be obtained from Sam Russell at 469-713-5200. |
Any school personnel who makes application on a routine basis of any pesticides, insecticides, or herbicides at a school or on school property must be either a licensed non-commercial applicator or a technician. The Texas Structural Pest Control Board will be reviewing and setting standards in the near future for the technician category in non-commercial applications. Technicians must work under direct supervision of the non-commercial certified applicator.
A notification of pest control treatment must be posted at least 48 hours in advance. The purpose of the notice is to inform employees and faculty that a pest control treatment will be done. Also, a consumer information sheet must be provided to any employee upon request. Students may not re-enter a treated area for at least 12 hours following application. Outside application areas cannot be used by students for 12 hours following treatment. These re-entry restrictions apply to normal academic and extracurricular activities.
All pest control application records shall be maintained on the employer's premises for two years. The records must include the name and address of customer (supervisor), name of pesticides or devices used, amounts of pesticides or devices used, percent in solution of pesticides used, purpose for which the pesticides or devices were used (target pest), and date pesticide or devices were used (school campus). The records must be made available to an employee of the Structural Pest Control Board upon request.
Student Directory Information
Federal law requires that "directory information" on a child be released by the District to anyone who requests it unless written objection is filed within ten days of the time this handbook is first given to the student. Directory information ordinarily includes the student's name and telephone number.
At the Parent Orientation (or registration for late students) parents who wish to deny release of their child's personnel information for commercial purposes will be asked to sign a form.
The “FME PTA Student Directory” is provided by the PTA for their members and only includes names and phone numbers.
If parents request that their student’s work, picture, and name not be released, the student’s picture will NOT appear in the student yearbook or in local newspapers.
