  Counselors

WHAT DOES AN ELEMENTARY COUNSELOR DO?

We teach in the classrooms topics such as self-esteem, conflict resolution, decision-making, drug awareness, and antivictimization.

Kristy Dixon and Shelly Blevins

Do we have small groups?
Yes we do! We meet with groups of students from each grade level once a week for about six weeks at a time. Group topics are getting along with others, divorced families and handling stress. Teachers and parents sign students up for groups. Parent permission slip will go home when a student is signed up for a group.

Do we see individual students?
We see right away any student who is angry, upset or sad. We work on problem-solving strategies and may see them again for a follow-up visit. Sometimes parents or teachers ask us to see a student to work on a particular issue.

What can we do for parents?
We have parent conference to share information on how their child is dealing with school. We have parent workshop called Love and Logic to help parents deal with certain behaviors. We also have many books and tapes available for parents to check out.

How do you contact us?
Just call the school at 469-713-2180 and ask for Mrs. Blevins or Mrs. Dixon. You may also call our direct line into our offices or e-mail us.
