To benefit from the instructional program and to develop good work habits, students are expected to attend school regularly and be on time. Good attendance generally promotes higher grades and enjoyment of school. Each absence is a loss of learning that cannot be replaced.
An excused absence is one which results from personal illness, sickness, or death in the family, quarantine, or weather or road conditions making transportation dangerous. There may be other special circumstances which will result in an excused absence with prior approval from the principal. "Family Emergency" and "Family Business" are not considered excused absences.
School hours are 8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.. Students who arrive after 9:30 a.m. are counted absent for the day. If your child visits the doctor or dentist before arriving at school for the day, please bring the appropriate note from the medical/dental office. Your child will not be counted absent or tardy for that day.
Parents, please call in student absences at 469-713-5967 from 7:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m.
It is the parent's legal responsibility to see that children attend school whenever possible. Students should not attend school when they are sick. However, there is a full-time nurse on staff who may be able to help students attend school and receive necessary care on campus.
Students who are frequently absent may have difficulty in school. If a student is absent for four or more consecutive days, a conference with the teacher is encouraged, and documentation of illness may be required. Illness serious enough for extensive absences will involve a physician's verification. According to state law, excessive absences(more than 10%), excused or unexcused, full day or part day, will be reviewed by the school attendance committee and may result in retention or legal action.
The first few minutes of the day are important for organizing, getting out homework assignments, sharpening pencils, and saying "Good Morning". At the 8:00 am bell, students should be in their classes and prepared for the day. Announcements of daily events are made and teaching begins immediately.
Tardy students must report to the office for a tardy slip. Tardies are recorded and parents are notified when tardies become excessive.
