Mission Statement

J.W. Degan Elementary School is dedicated to its students and to providing a quality education based on excellent instruction, challenging curriculum, a strong partnership  with parents, and a caring commitment to each individual.

Degan History

J.W. Degan Elementary School was opened in 1974 and named for a well known and respected community leader.  A native of Bartonville, J.W. Degan organized the Lewisville State Bank in 1910 and was its president for 35 years.  Mr. Degan served as treasurer of the board of Regents for Texas Women's University and the President of the Denton County National Bank.  Although J.W. Degan was recognized for his financial success, he is remembered for his ability to set others at ease, regardless of their walks of life, and for his good judgment and trustworthiness.
