Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is required for enrollment? Birth Certificate, Social Security card, immunization record, withdrawal form from previous school and proof of local residency (a current utility bill.)

2. What can you tell me about the curriculum? Our curriculum follows the guidelines set forth by the TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills). There is a committee that adopts the curriculum each year for our district. Each campus has an in depth curriculum guide for parents to view.

3. Do we have an active volunteer program at our campus? Yes, most definitely. PTA has a very active volunteer program here. Many parents give generously of their time. We feel this is an important factor in your child's education. Please make sure that you complete an online background check prior to volunteering.

4. What are the areas that are bussed? Generally, students residing at least 2 miles from the school are eligible for bus services, however some areas are eligible for bus transportation within the 2 mile limit if children have to cross an intersection with no crossing guard or sidewalks are not accessible. For more information please contact Durham Transportation at (972)-221-4557.

5. Do we allow visitors at lunch time? We would be happy to have visitors at lunch time. Please sign in at the office as a visitor. Our secretary will let you know when your student's lunch time has begun. Parents who come to school to eat lunch will sit at the designated table with their child. We ask that parents respect the cafeteria rules and the directives of the teacher on duty. In order to facilitate the timely dismissal of students from the cafeteria and to allow for tables to be prepared for the next lunch period, parents are asked to exit the cafeteria five minutes before the end of the lunch period. All students will be required to return to their class' designated table. Please note, there will be no lunch visitors for the first week of school for all grade levels and no lunch visitors for the first three weeks of school for kindergarten. This will allow our teachers to make sure lunch room procedures are understood and consistently practiced by all of our students.

6. How do we check students out for appointments? Any student leaving campus during the school day would need to be signed out in our office. Only people listed on the enrollment card will be able to sign your child out. A valid driver's license will be requested when signing out students. Upon returning to school from the medical appointment, a doctor's note must be submitted to the attendance clerk to excuse this absence or partial absence from school.

7. Do we have a nurse on campus? Yes, Judy Keown is a full time R.N. here at Bluebonnet.

8. At what age can a child start school? Students must be five years of age by September 1st to begin Kindergarten. They must be six years of age by September 1st to begin First Grade.
