Create the audio file.

Most Windows based computers come with sound recording software built into them. On an Windows XP computer you can find it by going to Start > All Programs > Accessories > Entertainment > Sound recorder. This tool can be used with the microphone that comes with your computer or a plug in microphone. Test it to check and see what kind of audio quality you get.

There are serveral free software solutions to recording and editing the audio files. One such program is Audacity. This is a free open source software recording and editing tool that works well to record and edit a learncast without costing anything. It does require an additional software program, Lame, that will allowyou to export audio files in mp3 format (the standard for the district). Installation is quite easy and directions are provided on the page with the download.

Other free and easy to use programs include Voice Mail Compressor, Xilisoft Video Converter.  There are many other converter programs. Select the one of your choice to create and edit your learn cast file.

Compose the show notes.
These notes should provide a brief overview of the content of the podcast and should be posted with the podcast.
Upload the Audio file and show notes to the web.
For other people to get to your podcast it needs to be on a computer that is able to serve up files to other computers over the web.
