Do you know how to see what your child is doing on the computer?

• To see what websites have been accessed on a computer recently, open Internet Explorer. Hold the Ctrl Key down and press H to see the History. The History list should display a list of sites that have recently been visited on that computer.
• A blank History may indicate that the users are covering their tracks and there is a need for concern.
• For additional protection, parents can install 3rd party software that will monitor the sites their children visit. While no program is perfect and nothing replaces direct supervision, programs like NetNanny (so far I have heard this is one of the better software packages out there), CyberPatrol, and Cyber Sitter allow< parents to make choices about what will be blocked and to keep track of the most current history.
• AOL automatically saves the last 300 places visited.
• Internet Explorer can be customized to report a list of the< places visited in the last 999 days.
• After the history entries are viewed, they can be cleared.

• Protect your child by establishing rules including time of day, length of time online, contact choices and safe areas to visit.

• Never respond to any message that has bad words or seem scary or just weird; and to always let you know immediately if they find something scary or threatening on the Internet.
• Never give out their name, address, telephone number, password, school name, parent's name or any personal information.
• Never send their picture to anyone without your permission.
• Never agree to meet face to face with anyone they meet online.
• Never enter an area that charges for services without asking you first.
