Downing Middle School opened its doors in the fall of 2002. Downing offers a full continuum of educational opportunities for sixth through eighth grade students. Special populations are served through Special Education, LEAP for gifted students, career and technology education, and 504 programs. As one of the newer middle school campuses, Downing has the latest technology, which is utilized daily by the teachers. The school philosophy is based on traditional values and strives to educate the total student. Downing MS received Gold Performance Acknowledgments from the Texas Education Agency in 2006-07 for: Attendance (2005-06); Commended on Reading/ELA; Commended on Mathematics; Commended on Writing; Commended on Social Studies; and Comparable Improvement: Mathematics. |
