Alternative Certification
Information
The Alternative Certification Program is designed for individuals who hold a college or university degree but no teaching certificate. The Lewisville ISD, as a matter of policy, interviews and considers fully certified teachers for every opening before we consider candidates who are currently enrolled in a mentor-based alternative certification program.
As a matter of district procedure, the Lewisville ISD does not consider, interview or place general elementary candidates who are not fully certified or who are enrolled in an alternative program. The only exception to this procedure would be elementary bilingual applicants and certain specific special education placements. Secondary alternative candidates are only considered in certain shortage areas once the pool of fully qualified and certified candidates are exhausted.
