Student Teaching:

Requests for student teaching in the Lewisville Independent School District must be sent by the University Program Director to:

LISD Human Resource Services Department
Attn: Pat Barges, Dir. of Elementary Staffing
1800 Timber Creek Road
Flower Mound, TX 75028

Please adhere to the timelines listed on the Program Time Lines page (click here).

District Application and Criminal Background Check: Students must complete and submit the District application (submit to program director) and the LISD Criminal Background Check (LISD online application) to be considered for placement. Each student must have a program advisor assigned prior to submission of the application. The program advisor sheet must also accompany the application. Student teacher requests will be handled through Human Resource Services. Applications should be reviewed and signed by an authorized individual of the program prior to making requests for placement. All requests must be in writing and be processed through HRS. Students or representatives of the requesting programs should NOT contact teachers or principals directly.

Geographical Preferences: Every effort will be made to honor geographical preferences, when available, in the district, e.g. Lewisville/Flower Mound/Highland Village, Carrollton , The Colony/Frisco; however, requests for individual schools, and/or teachers will not be honored. The Human Resource Services Department will place student teachers in schools and with cooperating teachers who will provide proper mentoring and supervision. Teachers may be assigned one student teacher in the fall or spring semester or two different student teachers if a student has a split assignment. Program coordinators and supervisors are encouraged to make contact with individual principals and teachers, once student teacher placements have been identified, to answer any specific program questions or to schedule cooperating teacher training sessions.

All student teacher candidates must be entering the final semester of the teacher preparation program; and, upon successful completion of student teaching and any other program requirements, be eligible for a Texas Standard Teaching Certificate. Lewisville ISD does not place student teachers in paid internship assignments.

LISD will not place student teachers from programs outside of the state of Texas .

Student Observing:

Requests: Colleges/Universities and program personnel should submit requests for student observation placements to:

LISD Human Resource Services Department
Attn: Pat Barges, Director of Elementary Staffing
1800 Timber Creek Road
Flower Mound, TX 75028

Please adhere to the timelines listed on the Program Time Lines page (click here).

District Application and Criminal Background Check: Each student observer requesting placement must complete and submit a District Criminal Background Check together with a District application prior to a request for placement being made. All requests for placements must be in writing and approved by a program supervisor or coordinator prior to submission.

Placement: Placements will be made by the LISD Human Resource Resources Department and sent to the program supervisor (or appropriate designee) for distribution to student observers in the program. Student observers or representatives of the program should NOT contact individual schools and/or teachers until observation assignments have been made.

Due to the ever-increasing number of requests, we will only place individuals doing observations leading directly to student teaching the following semester. We will not place student observers from junior colleges or alternative programs.

Guidelines for Lewisville ISD Employees Seeking Placements:

Lewisville ISD is committed to supporting its employees in their efforts to grow and advance. To this end, every effort will be made to accommodate requests for placements made by LISD staff members, when those requests fall within the guidelines previously detailed. In addition, it should be noted that the following practices apply to LISD employees seeking assignments in the district:

  1. LISD employees requesting student observer placements will be assigned at a campus other than their current work site.
  2. Employees of LISD, in student observer placements, are expected to adhere to a normal work schedule, performing their duties and responsibilities in accordance with their job assignments.
  3. Student observers employed by the district will not be “released” to fulfill observation requirements. It will be incumbent upon the student observer to arrange personal time, outside of the regular work day, to complete student observation hours.
  4. LISD does not place student teachers in paid assignments. Teaching internships are not available in the district.
