In second grade students learn 2-and 3-digit addition and subtraction with regrouping. They are also introduced to multiplication concepts. In reading, students build more complex comprehension skills, moving from explicit to implicit (inferred) elements in a story. Also, when writing, 2nd graders implement learned spelling patterns and sight words in their everyday writing. They enjoy an in-depth study of American historical figures and their impact on society. In science, students learn about the interdependent relationship between our environment and living things.
