LHS - North ranked #1 in Texas Monthly rankings

Texas Monthly recently ranked Killough Lewisville High School - North as first among Texas high schools.

"Building a culture of success is an investment that does not yield its returns overnight," said Andy Plunkett, principal of Killough LHS-North.

"This accomplishment was only possible because of the hard work and dedication of everyone on this campus over the last four or five years. I am so happy my staff is being recognized for the endless amount of hours they dedicate to our students each year. We have several innovative programs that have evolved since the inception of LHSN and they are proving to be enormously successful year after year. There is no way that we could have earned the award without the continued support of the LISD Administration and the fact that they believed in our philosophy and gave us the flexibility to use the best practices to meet our students' needs."

To determine who made the list, data was collected and analyzed concerning how students fared in areas such as reading, math, writing, science and social studies. The demographic makeup of the student body was also taken into account.

Killough LHS-North teachers are also excited about this recognition.

"All our teachers have worked together as a team and put so much time working with students in and out of class to prepare them academically and make personal connections with them," said Ro Stark, math department chair and TAKS facilitator at Killough LHS-North. "It is really great to see our staff's and student's hard work be rewarded with such a great honor."

Marcus High School also made the top 100 high schools in Texas. Bridlewood Elementary as well as Forestwood and McKamy Middle Schools were included in the larger list of the 574 best schools in Texas.

Rankings were determined by the National Center for Education Accountability, formerly known as Just for the Kids. The center is a research arm of the University of Texas.
