    The LISD Adult and Community Education Department has plenty of activities scheduled for youngsters ages 3 - 14 this summer.

    Yang places third at State Geography Bee
    .
    Eric Yang, a sixth-grader at Griffin Middle School placed third at the state National Geographic Bee, tying the highest placement of an LISD student at the annual event.

    Yang, who won the LISD bee in March, was accompanied by seven other LISD students at the bee. These eight students represented the top 100 scores in the state in a geography test that qualified them to attend the event. This is the highest number of LISD students who made the top 100 scores.

    The other students include: Nathan Burmeister of Briarhill Middle School, Joseph Martin of Lamar Middle School, Jackson Nagle of Shadow Ridge Middle School, Faduma Nur of Forestwood Middle School, Drake Sanderson of McKamy Middle School, Alexander Moe of Castle Hills Elementary and Logan White of Hedrick Middle School.

    Congratulations to all students who attended the state National Geographic Bee.

    Dr. Roy competes in charity basketball tournament

    Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jerry Roy will compete against Kelley Lewis tonight at 5 p.m. at Killough LHS-North in an effort to raise funds for the Neal Wilson Chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA).

    Tickets are $50 and attendees will be eligible to win door prizes that include Dallas Mavericks tickets, Rough Riders tickets and more. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be served after the tournament. If interested, contact Alan King at 972-350-4733.

    LHS to hold bass tournament

    Lewisville High School will hold its second annual bass tournament on May 10 at Lewisville Lake Park, Sand Bass Point.

    The entry fee is $50 for adults and $25 for junior anglers. Junior anglers are only eligible to win trophies while adults can compete for cash prizes. For more information and to register, contact Leslie Peck at 214-675-3680 or send an e-mail to farmerfishin@verizon.net.

    FMHS Colorguard holds mini camp

    The Flower Mound High School Colorguard will hold a mini camp on April 26 from 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

    Registration is $30 and includes a T-shirt, goodie bag, snack and chance to win a door prize drawing. All girls are eligible to attend. For more information and to register, send an e-mail to Darla Turner at turnerdd@lisd.net.

    Marcus Marquettes to perform Spring Show

    The Marcus High School Marquettes will perform their annual Spring Show on April 18 - 19 at 7 p.m. in the school's auditorium. Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the door. For more information and to purchase tickets, please contact Alice Dack at dacka@lisd.net.

    LISD Council of PTAs holds annual Vendor Fair

    The LISD Council of PTAs will hold its annual Vendor Fair on April 19 from 9 a.m. to noon in the Killough LHS - North cafeteria.

    More than 70 LISD-approved vendors will display their wares to the public. The organization with the most attendees will win $100. For more information, contact Inta Jensen at vendorfair@lisdpta.org or at 972-355-2336.

    FMHS Cross Country and Track Booster Club hosts annual End of School Mile Run

    The Flower Mound High School Cross Country and Track Booster Club will hold its annual End of School Mile Run on May 3 from 8 - 11:30 a.m. at the school's track. All LISD first- through fifth-graders are welcome to attend.

    LHS presents annual Faculty Revue

    The Lewisville High School will hold its annual Faculty Revue on April 10 at 7 p.m. in the school's auditorium. Tickets are $5 and all proceeds go to LHS drama scholarships.

    Coach Brazil honored by TCU
    Hebron High School Football Coach Brian Brazil was recently given the Excellence in Education award by Texas Christian University's School of Education, Brazil's alma mater. Brazil was the only recipient of the annual award and received a plaque for his recognition.
