Holiday break approaching

LISD's winter break is Dec. 24 - Jan. 2. Students will be dismissed early on Friday, Dec. 21. Elementary students will be dismissed at 1:30 p.m. and middle school students will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m. High school students will be released at noon.

Celebrating LISD's diversity: Parade of Nations

LISD trustee Vernell Gregg is organizing a Parade of Nations for the community-wide Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration on Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. at Trietsch Memorial United Methodist Church. Students representing various countries will cross the stage, wearing a sash indicating their native country. E-mail Vernell Gregg before Jan. 8 with the names of any interested students and the countries they will represent. Please share this information with club sponsors or other interested groups.

Note: Entries are closed for the annual MLK Day art and essay contest.

- Laura Dutt (teacher, Timber Creek ES) completed the Dallas White Rock Marathon on Dec. 9 in 5 hours, 30 minutes.

- Indian Creek Elementary School teachers Erin Brown and Alissa Purvis earned their master's degrees in educational leadership at Dallas Baptist University. They will receive their principal's certification in the spring.

- Jesse Delgado, a LHS 2001 graduate and son of Linda Delgado (aide, Learning Center), earned his bachelor's degree in journalism with a concentration in advertising from University of North Texas.

- Jeffrey Warren, son of Barbara and Ron Somers (Special Ed. resource teacher/coach, Lewisville HS), graduated from the University of Texas - Austin with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering.

- Laurie Espinoza (teacher, Durham MS), daughter of Cherie Pemberton (secretary, Purchasing), earned her master's degree in education on Dec. 14 from Dallas Baptist University.

Natalie Kimble (teacher, Forest Vista ES) welcomed a grandson, Jude Buckley Krall, on Dec. 3.

Bereavement

- The mother of Menoosh Zaeri (librarian, Peters Colony ES) passed away on Dec. 8.

We're so proud

- Kathryn Brusco, a MHS 2004 graduate and daughter of Su Brusco (teacher, Highland Village ES), received the Holbrook Award from Belhaven College in Jackson, Miss. Kathryn, a senior and captain of Belhaven College's women's soccer team, was also named to the First Team of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference.

- Kathryn Lee, a MHS 1996 graduate and daughter of Linda Thiebaud (librarian, McAuliffe ES), was named Teacher of the Year at her intermediate campus in Wylie ISD.
