LISD pays tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr.
LISD and the Town of Flower Mound will host the annual MLK Day art and essay contest for middle and high school students. Students are encouraged to submit their work to their school prior to Dec. 18. Students will be honored at the community-wide Dr. King celebration on Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. at Trietsch Memorial United Methodist Church. The theme is "Unity in Our Community: Fulfilling the Dream."
Celebrating LISD's diversity: Parade of Nations
LISD trustee Vernell Gregg is organizing a Parade of Nations to salute the diversity in our district. At the celebration on Jan. 19, students representing various countries will cross the stage, wearing a sash indicating their native country. E-mail Vernell Gregg before Jan. 8 with the names of any interested students and the countries they will represent. Please share this information with club sponsors or other interested groups.
Sharon Haney (clerk, Purchasing) completed the Dallas White Rock Marathon on Dec. 9 in 4 hours, 49 minutes.

- Jennifer Kubecka, daughter of Elizabeth Kubecka (teacher, Lewisville HS), graduated from University of Arizona with a master's degree in music performance and library science.
- Elizabeth Wade (teacher, Learning Center), daughter of Grace Powers (nurse, Health Services), will graduate on Dec. 15 from University of North Texas with a master's degree in education.

- Cindy Sanchez (payroll specialist, Finance) gave birth to a baby boy, Zade Sebastian Sanchez, on Nov. 14.
- Rosa Mena (ESL aide, Lakeland ES) is the grandmother of Daniel Alexander Suchand, who was born on Nov. 15 to Marcus HS graduates Brian and Malina Suchand.
- James and Kelly Beugler (Special Education content mastery teacher, Central ES) welcomed their first baby, Jackson Foster Beugler, on Nov. 18. Jackson's grandparents are Fred and Erly Izard (bilingual teacher, Central ES).

- Edward McMenamy, father of Lisa Moore (internal auditor, Finance), passed away on Dec. 7.
- Soren and JoAnne Mikaelian, both teachers at College Street ES, lost their brother-in-law on Nov. 12.
