LISD salutes our American veterans

Lewisville ISD's Board of Trustees hosts the ninth annual Veterans Day breakfast and ceremony on Friday, Nov. 9. LISD employees who are veterans are encouraged to attend.

Veterans and their guests are invited to a breakfast at 9:30 a.m. at Timber Creek Elementary, followed by a public Veterans Day ceremony at 10:30 a.m. at LISD's Administration Building. Breakfast attendees should RSVP by e-mail to Valerie Nettles. Click here for information.

Breast cancer awareness events at our campuses

- Hedrick Elementary's team of 15 walkers and runners participated in the 2007 Komen Race for the Cure on Oct. 20 and donated more than $1,000 for the cause. They also held a "Think Pink" day on campus and raised $275 by paying $5 to wear pink with their jeans.

- Central Elementary, home to several breast cancer survivors, held its second annual "Pretty in Pink" jeans day and raised $495.

- Charlie and Betsy Douglass (art teacher, Ethridge ES) and Rick and Cheryl Scott (PPCD teacher, Bridlewood ES) happily announce the engagement of their children, Matt Douglass (MHS '00) and Kristen Scott (MHS '01). They plan to marry in October, 2008.

- Kara Allyn Freeman (MHS '02) married Christopher Lee Gray on Nov. 3. Kara, a graduate of Oklahoma State University in 2006, is the daughter of Mary Freeman (Special Ed. inclusion teacher, Forestwood MS).

Big kids

- Jordan Bishop, a Hebron HS graduate and daughter of Mark Bishop (P.E. teacher/coach, Hebron HS) and Deb Bishop (office clerk, Hebron HS), was named one of the Big 12 Soccer Players of the Week for games she played Oct. 22 - 28. Jordan, a student at Iowa State University, was coached by Eric Ramirez at Hebron HS and is enjoying her second career weekly award.

Little kids

- Superintendent Dr. Jerry Roy and Dr. Cindy Roy are pleased to announce the arrival of their first grandchild, Chase Alexander Moore, on Oct. 30.

- Leigh Ann Richardson (art teacher, Morningside ES) welcomed Ella Kay Richardson on Oct. 1. Ella has a proud big sister, Emma Leigh.

- Connor Reed Blakeborough arrived on Oct. 27. He is the grandson of Ann Spinks (Special Ed. resource teacher, Central ES).

- Martha Holmes (librarian, Hedrick ES) welcomed a new grandson, Logan Benjamin Wilson, on Oct. 31.

- Carolyn Moore (counselor, Lakeland ES) proudly announces the birth of her third grandchild, Reed Collin.

- Jozi Kettle (bilingual teacher, Lakeland ES) gave birth to a little girl, Kira Mari, on Nov. 6.
