Retired school personnel will meet Oct. 18
The Lewisville Area Retired School Personnel Association will meet at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 18 at First Presbyterian Church, 1002 Fox Ave. in Lewisville. The program will address personal safety, identity theft and scams. Members should bring dried flowers to make bookmarks. Refreshments served. Call 214-704-2282 for information.
LISD's Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities Taskforce wants everyone to know that Red Ribbon Week will be held Oct. 23 - 31. Red Ribbon Week is the oldest and largest drug awareness campaign in the nation. Click here to learn more.

Psychological Services receives award
LISD's Psychological Services was named "Outstanding Delivery of School Psychological Services for 2007" at the Texas Association of School Psychologists' annual convention in Austin last week.
Psychological Services not only supports innovative programs such as a family counseling center, Safe and Civil Schools and the Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities Taskforce, it also contributes to the training of future psychologists through the APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship program and through collaboration with area universities as a practicum site.
Our kids
Steven Jones (MHS '06) has a story published in the latest Chicken Soup for the Teen Soul. "A Beard," first written in Lajuana Hale's Marcus HS creative writing class, also appeared in TeenInk magazine. Steven is the son of Dixie Durham (teacher, Forest Vista ES) and Rody Durham (assistant director, Athletics).
Wedding rings
- Melanie Morton (MHS '98) and Justin Kemp were married on Sept. 8. Melanie is the daughter of Sharon Morton (office clerk, Marcus HS).
- Marcus HS graduates Josh Widener and Kelly Landrum (teacher, McAuliffe ES) will marry on Oct. 27.
"It's a girl!"
- Matt (MHS '91) and Jena Toich (teacher, Downing MS) are the first-time parents of a daughter, Marley Faith, born on July 20.
- Stacy and David Russell (LHS '90) announce the arrival of Sadie Lynn on Sept. 24. Jack and Jackie Russell (secretary, Student Services) are thrilled with their fourth granddaughter. Sadie joins her big sister, Sydney Kay.
Bereavement
- Terry Waggoner (teacher, Heritage ES) lost her father-in-law, Leroy Waggoner, on Sept. 30.
- Ryan Griffith, brother of Sara Foltermann (teacher, Lakeview MS) passed away on Oct. 4. Ryan taught English to elementary students in Seoul, South Korea.
- Elaine Goldsmith, mother of Gary Goldsmith (principal, Shadow Ridge MS) and Roger Goldsmith (teacher/coach, Hebron HS) and wife of former LISD athletics director Max Goldsmith, passed away on Oct. 11. Mrs. Goldsmith retired from LISD after more than 30 years teaching homebound students.
- The mother of Maleonor Gomez (Child Nutrition, Lakeland ES) passed away on Oct. 11 in Mexico.
