Farmer pride

Lewisville High School was voted the best public school in Lewisville and Flower Mound by the readers of the Lewisville and Flower Mound Leader newspapers.

In other LHS news, Justin John, the student who acts as the school's mascot Farmer John, was named a finalist in Capital One's High School Mascot Challenge. Justin will have the opportunity to win $5,000 for Lewisville High School and participate in a college football game when he competes in a city-wide pep rally at 2 p.m. on Sept. 29 at NorthPark Mall. The mascot receiving the most votes from Sept. 29 through Oct. 12 will win the Challenge - click here to vote.

A lifetime of love

- Mandi Burgin (teacher, Liberty ES) wed Lake Dallas ISD coach and former FMHS coach John Tompkins on July 14. Mandi is the daughter of Becca Burgin (accountant, Finance Dept.).

- Christopher Chase, son of Sheila Chase (assessment specialist, Special Ed.), will marry Sarah Deslatte on Sept. 29; both are graduates of The Colony HS.

- Sarah Mathis (bilingual teacher, Lakeland ES) and Chris Wehkamp are engaged to be married on June 21. Both are 1997 Marcus HS graduates. Sarah is the daughter of Jan Mathis (ESL teacher, Huffines MS).

Bundles of joy

- Paul and Judy Hartgrove (Special Ed. communication teacher, Ethridge ES) are thrilled at the birth of their first granddaughter, Hannah Kathryn, on July 5. Her parents are Rachel and Matt Hartgrove (MHS '97).

- Jennifer Cooper (teacher, Griffin MS) gave birth to Grace Louise on Sept. 3. Grace has had several heart surgeries and her doctors are pleased with her progress. Contact Dana Bates at Griffin MS if you wish to help the Cooper family as they face another surgery.

- Brendan Tait Dudley, son of Lindsay and David Dudley, was born on Sept. 9. His grandparents are Lori Fields (teacher, Shadow Ridge MS) and Mike Fields (principal, Lamar MS).

- John and Judy LaBelle (LEAP teacher, Morningside ES) are the proud grandparents of Brooklyn Renee, born on Sept. 15. Brooklyn's mother is Melissa LaBelle Cornejo (TCHS '95).

- Karen Sipes (assessment clerk, Special Ed.) welcomed her first grandchild on Sept. 19. Her son, David and his wife, Heidi had a baby girl named Madison Kay.

- Roberto Gonzalez (bilingual teacher, Lakeland ES) and his wife, Elizabeth, announce an addition to their family. Lizette arrived on Sept. 24.

Wow!

- Nick Bandy-Gerleman, a Lakeview Middle School student and son of Lee Ann Bandy (supervisor, Community Ed.), was awarded 10th place in the 2007 Texas State Fair amateur photography competition for this stunning photo of a caterpillar.

- Jessica Miramontes, a Flower Mound HS graduate and Texas Tech student, is a member of the World Kick Boxing team and is now training for the Olympic team. Her proud mother is Ana Roquemore (bilingual teacher, Central ES).

Bereavement

- Fred Davis, father of Lori Davis (Title I teacher, Stewart's Creek ES), passed away on Sept. 6.

- Lavera Ross, mother of Mark Ross (director, New Construction), passed away on Sept. 19. She is the mother-in-law of Marty Ross (teacher, Forestwood MS) and grandmother of Robert Ross (technologist, Technology).
