LISDEF accepting applications for teacher grants

The Lewisville ISD Education Foundation is now accepting applications/proposals for teacher grants to fund projects that enhance and augment educational opportunities for students and teachers in LISD. All applications must be received by 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 7. Click here for more information.

Here's to you

- Lois Hardaway and Isabel Ramirez (ESL teachers, Lewisville HS) spent six weeks studying Dante's Divine Comedy this past summer in Sienna, Italy. They were selected from hundreds of applicants by the National Endowment for the Humanities. Lois and Isabel received $4,200 from the NEH as part of their award. It is a rarity for two teachers from the same campus to be selected for this special NEH honor and it is a testimony to the outstanding quality of their scholarship and their commitment to bringing the very best to their students at LHS.

- Jennifer Key (psychologist, Special Ed.) received her doctoral degree on Aug. 12 from the University of Memphis.

- Maricela Rodriguez (secretary, Special Ed.) graduated from UNT on Aug. 11 with a bachelor's degree in applied technology and professional improvement, concentrating on child development.

- Elizabeth Free (coordinator, Purchasing) earned the title of Certified Purchasing Card Professional (CPCP) from the National Association of Purchasing Card Professionals. LISD is the only district in Texas and one of six nationwide to have a CPCP.

- Andrew Cook (cross country coach, Flower Mound HS) won the San Francisco Marathon on July 29! He has qualified for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials - Men's Marathon which will be held during the New York City Marathon weekend of Nov. 2.

- Peters Colony ES assistant principal Cynthia Jaird earned her superintendent's certification with SBEC, fulfilling the requirements through the Superintendent's Cohort Program at TWU.

- Mary Donaghey (counselor, Special Ed.) became a L.P.C. (licensed professional counselor) during the summer.


What a BEAUTIFUL baby!"

- Aaron and Elizabeth Cox (inclusion teacher, DeLay MS) welcomed their second child, Lucas James Cox, on June 26.

- First-time grandmother Julie Roundy (drama teacher, Donald ES) is thrilled at the birth of Kiera Fae Roundy, daughter of David Roundy (FMHS '02) and Kinzie Neibaur Roundy (FMHS '03).

- Another new grandma, Terry Waggoner (MTA teacher, Heritage ES), happily announces the arrival of Carson Allen Cheney on July 18.

- Nancy Boedecker (secretary, Hedrick MS) is proud of her new granddaughter, Reagan LeeAnn Porter. She arrived on July 22 and her parents are Brad and Tara Porter (A.I. teacher, Special Ed.).

- Juan Ruiz and Megan Gitter-Ruiz (teacher, Jackson ECC) welcomed their first child, Brandon Richard Ruiz, on Aug. 14.

- Debbie Campbell (teacher, Valley Ridge ES) and Mike Campbell (teacher/head baseball coach, Lewisville HS) are proud to announce the arrival of their first grandchild, Lillian Grace Lusby, on Aug. 21. Lillian's uncle is Stephen Campbell (teacher/coach, Arbor Creek MS).

In our thoughts

- We are keeping Jessica Gage in our thoughts and hearts. Jessica, daughter of Stephanie Gage (director, Health Services) and former LISD athletics director Ronnie Gage, will have more surgery on Sept. 6 to remove a brain tumor. Please refer to Jessica's webpage for any updates about her medical condition.

Love and cherish

- Alyson Morton and Michael Presley are engaged to be married. They are the children of Lesa Moore (teacher, Donald ES) and Debbie Presley (secretary, Assoc. Superintendent's office).

- Jenny Fisher (teacher, Morningside ES) married Tommy Terry on June 23 at First Christian Church in Plano. Jenny's parents are Herb and Jan Fisher (teacher, Learning Center).

Our great kids

- Craig Gehrke (TCHS '95), son of Wally and Sandi Gehrke (librarian, Lakeview MS), graduated on July 14 with a master's degree from the University of Texas in Austin.

- Patty Haag (PPCD aide, Forest Vista ES) is proud of her son, Grant Haag (MHS '04). He graduated summa cum laude from Texas Tech University on Aug. 11 and was ranked first in his class at the Rawls School of Business and tied for first ranking in Texas Tech's 2007 graduating class. Grant received a bachelor's degree with honors in management and will complete his master's degree in marketing this fall.

- Marc Fryt (MHS '07), son of Andrea Fryt (contest mastery aide, Marcus HS), was formally accepted into the West Point Corp of Cadets on Aug. 18 after completing six weeks of CBT.

- Ben (B.J.) Brown, son of Mary Brown (resource teacher, Camey ES), graduated from Advanced Infantry Training in Ft. Benning, GA and will be stationed at Ft. Lewis, WA.

- John Vera, son of Rosie Alexander (ESL teacher, Central ES), was awarded an internship with the New York City Opera. John is a trombone graduate student at Mannes School of Music, Manhattan and will graduate in May.

- FMHS sophomore Seth Ginsberg debuted in his first Disney series, "As The Bell Rings," on Aug. 26. Seth's proud mother is Kathy Ginsberg (attendance clerk, Vickery ES).

Bereavement

- Terra Salas (homebound teacher, Special Ed.) lost her mother, Michal Lynn Pratt, on May 30.

- Linda Morrison (resource teacher, Rockbrook ES) lost her father on June 13.

-The mother of Melissa Williams (teacher, Parkway ES), Marcy Bradford, age 78, passed away on July 22.
