Welcome to the 2007-2008 school year! This year, our district is projected to serve 50,671 students, approximately 2,000 more students than last year. We're happy that everyone's first day went smoothly, thanks to our dedicated teachers and staff who worked so hard to prepare for another exciting year. It was a pleasure to walk through the halls of the campuses I visited on Monday and see so many eager and happy students.

I'm glad to welcome 165 new teachers who have joined our outstanding team. We are excited these "cream of the crop" educators have chosen LISD as their professional home. Overall, this year we have hired 526 new employees who will continue our long-standing tradition of educational excellence.

I'll correspond with you from time to time by way of this electronic publication, the LISD Dispatch. The Dispatch, published by LISD's Communications Office, will be sent to you each Wednesday and will contain not only important staff news and developments, but noteworthy achievements of our LISD employees and their families.

Have a great year!

Jerry W. Roy, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
